Preview updated: 09/05/2019, Updates: It looks a lot like Sony's other a6000-series models at first glance, but this one has the biggest battery and the best build quality of the bunch, even if the images it produces are broadly comparable to the less expensive options. With its Fast Hybrid AF, Sony claims that the A6600 can achieve focus in as little as 0.02 seconds. Fans of 24p will be pleased Sony’s still allowing it when Canon’s strangely neglecting 24p on non-Cinema cameras. SONY a6600 has IBIS which makes pictures more sharp and perfectly in focus. The Sony A6600 blends many aspects of the Sony A6400 and A6500 cameras while also adding some new features. As Sony's new flagship APS-C camera, the 24.2-meagpixel A6600 has a lot to live up to. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, but just outclassed in resolution by a number of rivals, again including the Fujifilm X-T3 which sports a 3.69 Million dot panel that’s more typical on a flagship body in 2019. Considering its power supply, the A6600 uses a different type of battery than its predecessors, Sony's NP-FZ100 rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The Sony a6600 has an industry-leading autofocus system, is capable of excellent images and video, comes with very useful in-body image stabilization and has the best battery life of any mirrorless camera on the market at this time. For stabilization, the A6600 includes SteadyShot Inside 5-axis in-body image stabilization, a feature present in the A6500 but missing from the A6400. The A6600 includes persistent real-time tracking and real-time eye AF. In terms of body design, the A6600 has an extended tilting range for its touchscreen and includes a headphone jack. This larger battery offers up to approximately 810 shots, which is about 2.2x better than the battery life of the A6400 and A6500 cameras, which use Sony's smaller W-type battery. On the Sony, it’s either red & green or blue & green (Bayer ar… This is great when filming 16:9 video as it fills the screen, but when shooting still photos in the native 3:2 shape, the image will be presented in a crop with black bars on the left and right sides. Any photo editing software will damage this data. 2. I’ve got to a point with Sony cameras where I rarely over-ride the Wide area mode with Real Time Tracking as it simply works so well for most subjects. When using it as a selfie display, there is a slight bit of the display which is obscured by the top plate of the camera, but it's a very small portion of the screen. Sony quotes 810 shots under CIPA conditions – roughly double that of the A6400 and a tad more than the full-framers which use it – but I managed over 900 shots on a single charge including several minutes of video and Wifi use. The major physical difference is the deeper grip to accommodate the larger battery, more about which in a moment. Remember the resolution of the viewfinder doesn’t affect the image quality, but you do appreciate the extra detail when manually focusing and experience less moire on detailed scenes – I really noticed the difference when framing my wide-angle city views around New York. Fujifilm’s X-T3 has twin SD slots, both of which exploit UHS-II speeds, and it’s also one of the first aspects about the A6600 which might have you considering the full-frame A7 III instead. There may be no 4k above 30p, nor any 10-bit recording internal or external – all of which is available on the Fujifilm X-T3 – but there’s no arguing with the quality of Sony’s oversampled 4k footage.
